University Program Board

So, I just finished watching an event that UPB hosts. It was amazing! The show was called the extraordinist. This person was mind blowing entirely. He would ask you to think of anything without telling him. Then he would figure it out. It was awesome and freaky at the same time. He randomly said someone's name, then he began to say that persons home address. The most amazing thing probably though was, when he pulled four random people and asked them to come up with an imaginary car; make, model, color, license plate #, and a price. After we heard what they said, he pulled out an envelope that he had written on before he even reached SRU. On this envelope was the exact same thing that the four people said.

Other than this event, UPB hosts many other amazing activities. UPB is broken up into sub groups that concentrate on certain things. There is, Major events like the big fall and spring concerts of main stream artists. Lectures, which brings people with interesting life stories that have moral. Weekend events, Arts and entertainment, Cultural Diversity, Public Relations, and University events all come up with things to entertain you through out the semester. So for those days you get bored, you should have no excuse. If you join UPB, you can put a voice in to what will be coming to SRU. So I strongly encourage you to join UPB, so you can see what you want, or just so you can have some experience for your major, with working with contracts and publications.

Welcome Back

I have just returned back to the Rock from the long one month holiday break. As much as I love to go home and reunite with my friends, the break gets to me quick. Having one month to let your body clear of any train of thought is always good, but if your like me, your hometown might not have much to offer to keep you occupied. So after two weeks of being home, I was already tired of sleeping long into the day and staying up late into the night. Everyone talks about the freshman fifteen, that never happens to me at school but at home it does. So I was really excited to get back to school to cut it off. Over break it really came apparent how SRU has become my real home. I love the learning experience, the people, and just staying active. I finally grew into the person I've always aspired to be.

College Halloween

The tree's leaves started to change colors making campus just that more beautiful. Also day light gets shorter and shorter by the day. This is just about the time when students realize Halloween is coming. No matter how much older you get you never lose the spirit of Halloween. But instead of being a cute nieve little child, we use our freedom to express our adult maturity. I'll admit I get into the season but I never quite know what to wear. But most girls on campus obviously do. It seems as though girls just want to flaunt what their momma gave em'. I don't mind, I'm all about eye candy. It's just as sweet. Haha. But anyway, even though your in college, it does not mean you can stop being a child. This is a great time of year to just to have fun like back in the day. Though Trick-0-Treating is not the college level fun. I must warn you that getting out can be fun but it is just as fun for the po po to dress up and hand out their treats, "citations". Have fun and be responsible. Happy Halloween.

Coffee Break

After five straight weeks of classes without going home, I have reached my ultimate stress level. Classes and being involved comes with a lot of work. When people ask me what my occupation is, I tell them that I'm a full time student. Its no lie. I go to classes and spend the majority of my day doing the work I recieve in class. I swear professors plan all their tests at the same time and that just aggrivates me entirely. The little time I get to hang out with people is a relief and breaks from class is a major gift. The only down side of Fall Break is that it marks mid-terms. The day I come back from resting my head, I get tested on all the material from the begining of the semester. Huh! When I get the slightest break I turn into a vegetable, and you could poke me and I wouldn't notice. Sure college is a great way to improve the jobs you get but I believe college is for those who genuinly want to learn. Even though I'm overwhelmed and stressed over work, I'm learning the things I want to know and the debt I'll be in will hopefully be worth it. haha.So I finish my last day of classes before break and I will become a living zombie as soon as they are over. This break is a relief with a hurricane right after it.

Cosmetic Surgery

If you make a trip to Slippery Rock any time in the next few years, you will notice plenty of construction. Although construction may seem ugly our campus is quite beautiful. For new incoming students, you should be pumped. We have new amazing dorms, new classroom buildings, renovated dining halls, and in the next three years a new student union. I might stick around a few years just so I can enjoy all these new things. Our campus is growing exponentionally. This is a great sign because it just shows the progress of how well our institution is doing. So when you come for a trip do not let all the construction get to you, its just getting ready for you.

Rock Pride?

What is Rock Pride? This was a question on the application for homecoming king this year. Even though I am currently only a sophomore. I was nominated by one of my orgs. to be homecoming King. Even though I am not considered high in the ranks yet, you learn what Rock Pride is rather quickly. To me there are many things that exhibit Rock Pride. I do not want to spoil it for you, so I'll just let you figure that out once you get here.

Getting Involved

Just today I realized how being involved with clubs and orgs. really makes your stay so much enjoyable. I started out with Fyrst Year Leader Scholar Program and then I just ran with any other opportunity I found interesting. Getting involved helps so much because it gives you activities to do and plenty of people to meet. Once you get involved you start to get addicted but beware that you do not over extend yourself. As long as you have quality time managment you should be able to balance more activities. So I really suggest to any one to get involved when on campus. You make amazing friends and you will not be bored. Get out there, go beyond your comfort zone so your bubble gets larger and you will find more comfort everywhere. Heres the chance to really develope yourself as a person. Take advantage of it. SRU provides over 160 clubs and organizations and if you still can not find one. It is real simple to create your own club. Working in the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership has given me a great understanding of the entire campus and how everything works. I'm know alot when it comes to getting involved. I am open for any questions. Fire away!
